I began writing short stories for class. At first, they were silly. Then, I found enjoyment in making up characters and having them do things. Sometimes, there were animals in the forest. At other times, there were a few children playing a game. Not only were they fun to create, I became good at it. My grades showed it. That is when I began writing for no other reason than to write. I found a few of them last week. Maybe I will share them with you on this adventurous journey we call writing!

I didn’t start out writing well. It took some time to find my voice. It differed depending on what I was writing. If I were writing a short story, it would be like telling a goodnight story to a child. If it were poetry, it was more of a grown-up vibe I had to present. Then there were articles for the local paper. It was completely from the school’s point of view. I loved playing the different roles my writing brought out.

I felt like I was acting out a different scene every time I sat down to put words to paper. Back then, that is exactly what it was. I had an old electric typewriter I liked to use occasionally. Mostly, I loved finding a nice pen that traveled smoothly across the paper. My thoughts and feelings came to life on the page. It was an incredible feeling! That feeling is coming back!
